Description: In a world where the United States is no more and has been replaced by an authoritarian Unity that rules from its East Coast citadel, leaving the outlands to chaos and altered plants, seventeen-year-old Lieutenant Malila Chiu faces a grim fate. Despite her fame as a veteran officer, Malila’s career is in shambles due to a demotion triggered by vandalism at a distant “sniffer” station and facing potential denunciation or worse. Her only option is to enter the outlands to repair the station herself. Initially, the repairs go smoothly, but exhaustion catches up with her. Waking up, Malila finds herself held hostage by Jesse Johnstone, an ancient savage who has murdered her platoon, making her an “Outland Exile.”
